42 years ago, in 1984, the Flower Festival was founded at the Plough Chapel in Brecon and it is still going strong. It coincides with the Brecon Jazz Festival so the chapel will be open to visitors the weekend of Friday August 7th to Saturday August 8th and will also be open on the afternoon of Sunday August 9th. 

The theme of the Flower Festival this year will be ‘Film Titles’ so come and see how the flower displays match up to what you remember of the films you’ve seen! The majority of the displays are created by members of Brecon Floral Society and the whole event is organised by chapel members and volunteers. On the Sunday evening at 6.00 pm there will be a Festival of Song (known as a Cymanfa Ganu in Welsh) where all are welcome to listen and join in the hymn singing.

The Flower Festival also provides an opportunity to see the magnificent interior of the Grade 2* listed building. The chapel was founded in 1699 (amazingly) and the present structure was built and then renovated in the nineteenth century. You can admire the distinctive woodwork of the balconies and pews, the beautiful plaster ceiling and the organ.

For visitors to Brecon the Plough Chapel can be found in Lion Street and the postcode is LD3 7AU. The doors will be open 10 am to 4 pm on the Friday and Saturday and from 2 pm to 5 pm on the Sunday. Donations gratefully received will go towards the upkeep of the chapel and a local charity chosen by chapel members. Refreshments will be available and the event will be accompanied by organ music played by volunteers.
